Erectile Dysfunction Vacuum Pump – An Option Worth Considering

by Cheryl Powers

According to some studies around eighteen million men in America today are coping with erectile dysfunction, the inability to achieve and maintain an erection firm enough for sexual intercourse. Forty percent of men over forty deal with the problem and even twenty percent of those younger suffer from ED. The causes vary greatly and can include obesity, diabetes, smoking, alcohol use, heart and circulatory conditions, emotional or mental issues, or the simple process of aging. But understanding the causes of ED is only one aspect of the problem. You also need to assess the treatments, and an erectile dysfunction vacuum pump is one such remedy.

Erectile Dysfunction Vacuum Pump

You likely won’t be introduced to the erectile dysfunction vacuum pump until other options have been tried such as oral medications, injections, testosterone replacement, or counseling for psychological problems. If these steps fail then your doctor may suggest that you try the erectile dysfunction vacuum pump to help with your erectile dysfunction. There are both battery powered and manually operated erectile dysfunction vacuum pump models to choose from, with the battery ones being a bit more expensive but obviously easier to use. While it may sound like a hassle, using the erectile dysfunction vacuum pump is easier than you think and a less invasive option than the next steps like surgical implants.

To use the erectile dysfunction vacuum pump the user first slips a tension band known as a penis ring over the base of the plastic cylinder. This band will restrict blood flow once the penis is erect and help maintain the erection, but remains on the tube for now. Next, lubricant is used to coat the penis, base of the erectile dysfunction vacuum pump, and inside of the tube. The next step is to insert the penis into the erectile dysfunction vacuum pump completely, pulling the base of the tube against the base of the penis so that a tight seal is formed.

Once the erectile dysfunction vacuum pump is positioned properly you will either switch on its battery function or manually operate it. The suction from the erectile dysfunction vacuum pump creates negative pressure which engorges the penis with blood and creates the erection that you’ve been lacking. Once the erection is formed, the tension band is slid off of the erectile dysfunction vacuum pump and over the base of the penis, holding the blood inside the penis and helping you maintain an erection. This will usually maintain an erection for a period long enough to have intercourse. If other treatments aren’t working for your ED, an erectile dysfunction vacuum pump may be your best option.
