Maintain an Erection – There are Ways to Keep Your Erection Lasting Longer

Most men want to be able to maintain an erection for a long time, but some men are not able to do that. This can happen more often in older men, but it also happens in younger men occasionally. For young men, the inability to keep an erection is usually a very simple thing that is brought on by nerves. When the nervousness goes away, so does the inability to get or keep an erection. For older men, the problem may not be so simple. As men age, their hormones change – and that can lead to a loss of libido.

If blood flow is sporadic or not strong enough, a man can’t keep his erection for very long. In some cases, he won’t be able to get one at all. Doctors call this condition erectile dysfunction, or ED. Many older men have this, and there are very various causes for it other than low blood flow. The best way to find out the cause of your ED is to see your doctor and have that uncomfortable conversation about sexual issues.

If you can’t maintain an erection, be prepared to tell your doctor that, along with any other symptoms you’re having. By being open and honest, your doctor will be able to order tests and get you a diagnosis. He may also be able to pinpoint a cause for your ED, or the cause may remain elusive. Either way, if you’re healthy enough for sexual activity you can most likely take medication that will help you achieve an erection and keep it long enough to enjoy sex again. Most men can take these kinds of medications.

Some men with serious heart of vascular conditions that cannot maintain an erection are not candidates for these types of medications because they are not safe for men with these medical problems. If you’re one of those men who cannot take ED drugs, ask your doctor about alternatives that you and your partner can try. It’s not very often that a man simply cannot have sex again, but if you find that having sex is difficult there are many other ways you and your partner can bond and learn to enjoy one another’s company. That can keep your relationship strong even if sex is no longer a large part of your life.
