What Can Menopause Do To Men?

By

Contrary to popular belief, men do go through a menopause of sorts as they age. While it is not as predictable or severe as the female version, there are definite changes that occur in the male body that can produce undesirable symptoms in some cases. Basically, Men and Menopause is similar to women and menopause to the extent that the production of the hormone specific to the sexual function of the body of each sex is reduced later in life. This means that testosterone production decreases during male menopause the same as estrogen production decreases during female menopause. The similarities pretty much end there however.

Men and Menopause

The symptoms related to Men and Menopause are much more subtle than those suffered by women. In fact, they are so subtle and so similar to those caused by many other issues that they are very difficult to diagnose for what they are. Symptoms such as depression, sexual dysfunction, fatigue, diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure, and other can be caused by a number of things. The only way to get a definite diagnosis of low testosterone is by a blood test. The doctor will draw blood and test the level of testosterone in the blood stream. Levels below normal for the stage of life the man is in indicate that these conditions could be caused by low testosterone, or Low T.

Many doctors do not even refer to menopause and men, but rather only to the condition known as Low T. This is because of the many differences and unpredictability from case to case. Even though all men see a reduction in testosterone production, the actual number that suffers from adverse effects is much less. In fact, many can remain fertile even into their 90s. So, the thing to remember is that doctors may not even consider the possibility of Low T unless patients mention that they would like to be tested.

Once diagnosed, Low T is easily treatable and most of the symptoms it causes can be reduced if not eliminated. While the idea of Men and Menopause is a somewhat new one, it is important because it could lead to many men who have been suffering needlessly finding relief. Relief from the symptoms of Low T can be a miracle to those who have been trying to heal a condition such a depression or diabetes that is actually a symptom of a completely different condition, rather than a condition in and of itself.
